EEOC proposes rule implementing Title II of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act

A proposed Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) rule would implement Title II of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA), which prohibits employment bias based on an applicant's or employee's genetic information and restricts employers, unions and other covered entities from intentionally acquiring or disclosing such private medical data. The EEOC is seeking public comment on the proposed rule until May 1, 2009, and will publish a final GINA rule by May 21, 2009. The law's employment provisions take effect Nov. 21, 2009.  (Select News, 2 Mar 2009)
