Tracking the contribution of US health care to the global competitiveness of American employers, workers

Prepared by Mercer, this report from the Business Roundtable shows health care costs in the US are putting employers and workers at a disadvantage with their global competitors. US workers and employers receive 23 percent less value from the health care system than leading economic competitors in Canada, Japan, Germany, the UK and France. While these countries spend about 63 cents for every dollar the US spends on health care, the health of the US workforce lags by 10 percent in a composite measure. The report also finds the US health system lags rising economies in Brazil, India and China.   (Business Roundtable, March 12, 2009, 27 pages)
