Contractors get another reprieve on E-Verify rule

Federal contractors have gained more time to verify that their employees can legally work in the US. A rule requiring contractors to confirm the legal status of their workers using the E-Verify system will take effect June 30, not May 21, according to the Department of Homeland Security. First proposed by the Bush administration, the rule was originally slated to take effect in February, but the Obama administration postponed implementation until May 21 -- and now June 30 -- to review the rule. A notice is expected to appear soon in the Federal Register.  (Select News, 17 Apr 2009)
