The first of three planned policy papers on health care reform options has been released by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-MT, and ranking GOP Sen. Charles Grassley, R-IA. The paper focuses on transforming the health care delivery system, including Medicare quality improvement and payment reforms. Topics addressed include Medicare Advantage payment reforms and a comparative effectiveness research institute funded in part by a private health insurance tax. The committee will discuss this paper, as well as future papers on increasing coverage and financing health reform, in closed-door sessions. (Select News, 30 Apr 2009)
