Many health and welfare plans to remain exempt from filing new Schedule C of Form 5500

Health and welfare plans currently excluded from filing Schedule C of Form 5500 will remain exempt, the Labor Department has confirmed in new FAQs. Starting with the 2009 Form 5500, Schedule C will require ERISA plans to provide much more detail about provider fees and compensation. While health and welfare plans funded through a trust will have to file Schedule C, plans exempt under existing guidance and regulations can continue to omit this form. For plans that must complete the expanded Schedule C, the new FAQs clarify reporting obligations and transition relief for the 2009 plan year.  (Select News, 30 Oct 2009)
